Last night I saw Road to Roubaix at a local Uplink Theater, a small theatre on the outskirts of Shibuya. The movie iteself was really good, but the theatre was a marginal. The atmosphere was interesting and it only sat around 50 people which a small screen, all of which was good. But the seat was less than ideal. With no backrest and less than ideal padding my buttocks was in quite a bit of pain.
As for the movie, documentary rather, it was quite good. The documentary was about the Paris-Roubaix bicycle race which is known as the “Hell of the North”. It is given that title due to the horrible sections of cobbles (or pave) that it includes. The documentary captured the unquiness of the Paris-Roubaix quite well and lots of good footage of the race itself. Near the end a bit of bias did show through as there was an inordinate amount of focus on Stuart O’grady who won the race in 2007 and is one of the few English speakers to have won the race and the only one in recent history.
