This past weekend, I took advantage of Nissan’s half price premium car rental campaign and rented the Skyline sedan (250GT) and went to Chichi with a few others.
Up until now rental cars had been small Toyota’s (Prius Aqua and Ractis) which were good cars but were not best at climbing hills. The Skyline was completely different, just put it in 2nd and it effortlessly went up the narrow twisty switchbacks. It felt so effortless and made it so easy. I didn’t wind up taking it on the highway but I am sure that it would have been very stable and easy able to handle.
Having said that, the Skyline 250GT has a 225hp 2.5L engine and with the effortlessness that came with it I don’t understand what the necessity to opt for the 3.7L engine in the Skyline or other sedans with 4.0L+ sized engines. It seems very much like a case of diminishing returns.
